Admittedly, I am a bit of a ceraunophile (lover of thunderstorms). At Casa Privada the panoramic views of lightning can be quite striking, but amazingly lightning seldom, if ever, strikes nearby. The occasional electrical storm on the horizon or over the ocean is a photographer’s dream. The best vantage point is often the south patio. The patio roof provides ample cover if the lightning is accompanied by rain, generally it is not. We have spent countless evenings sipping cocktails, listening to soft music, and
watching lightning on the horizon. Often, lightning is visible, but no thunder is heard. It is quieted by distance and/or the sound of the ocean. It’s not uncommon to have a mostly star-filled sky with lightning flashes over the mountains to the east and southeast. Best of all, we can enjoy the light show in total peace with no other homes visible, especially during the rainy season when the jungle fills in. Lightning shows are just one of nature’s experiences awaiting you at Casa Privada.
